Alan Shearer ^top Squad Number: 9 Date of Birth: 13th August 1970 Birthplace: Newcastle, England Height: 5’11” Date Signed and Fee: July 1996 for £15m Debut game: 17 August 1996 v Everton (A) Info: One of the best Strikers in World History Shearer signed for a then world record £15m as Keegan brought him home from Blackburn Rovers. Alan scores goals for fun and has ammased a great many for his clubs and country over his career. Also holds many prestige's awards and never lets the team down. Injuries have often meant Alan has had to sit out a great many months of the seasons but often came back stronger than before. Among other things Shearer has been awarded an OBE for services to Football. Probably the worst kept secret in football is that one day Alan will lead out Newcastle as manager.
Craig Bellamy ^top Squad Number: 10 Date of Birth: 13th July 1979 Birthplace: Cardiff, Wales Height: 5’8” Date Signed and Fee: 25th June 2001 for £6m 14th July 2001 v Sporting Lokeren (A) Info: Many questioned the surprise transfer of £6m Bellamy from relegated Coventry City in the Summer of '01 after some less than convincing displays for the doomed team. However Craig proved every single doubtere wrong and was the main reason Newcastle underwent such a magnificent turnaround from the previous years of a midtable mediocre team to qualifying for the Champions League. Injury curtailed his involvement in the 01/02 campaign although many tip Bellamy to match Michael Owen. Picked up the PFA Young Player of the Year award in 2002.
Carl Cort ^top Squad Number: 16 Date of Birth: 1st November 1977 Birthplace: London, England Height: 6’4” Date Signed and Fee: 6th July 2000 for £7m Debut game: 20 August 2000 v Manchester United (A) Info: Robson saved Cort from the depths of the First Division when he paid £7m for his services from relegated Wimbledon. Scored in the first league game of the season after only 4 minutes in the newly redeveloped St. James Park before tearing a hamstring and wasn't to be seen again in any great capacity until the end of the season when he netted 5 in 10 games. Injury however before the 01/02 season meant he was absent for a great majority of it too and has found the excellent partnership that Bellamy and Shearer have formed may hamper his chances of holding down a regular first team position. Remains a great talent however having a powerful build and being extremely fast.
Lomano Tresor Lua Lua ^top Squad Number: 20 Date of Birth: 28 December 1980 Birthplace: Zaire Height: 5’8” Date Signed and Fee: 22nd September 2000 for £2.25m Debut game: 23 September 2000 v Charlton Athletic (H) Info: Likened to Toon Legend Faustino Asprillia Lomano's excellent performances for Colchester prompted Robson to splash out £2.75m to the Second Division Club. Livewire Lua Lua has fantastic dribbling skills as well as blinding pace which enables him to beat the best defences in the Premiership. When called upon he always produces the goods and may be used as a super-sub for Newcastle.
Shola Ameobi ^top Squad Number: 23 Date of Birth: 12 October 1981 Birthplace: Zaria, Nigeria Height: 6’3” Date Signed and Fee: 1st July 1995, signed from trainee Debut game: 9th September 2000 v Chelsea (H) Info: Ameobi was thrown in at the deep end when Newcaslte were facing an injury crisis and found himself playing 22 games in 00/01 having previously only managed a substitute appearance. Tall and skillful Shola may prove to be a great talent for Newcastle.
Michael Chopra ^top Squad Number: 28 Date of Birth: 23 December 1983 Birthplace: Newcastle, England Height: 5’9” Date Signed and Fee: 1 July 1993, signed from trainee Debut game: N/A Info: Local lad Chopra was on fire for the Reserves when Robson was persuaded to hand him a squad number for the 02/03 season. Has represnted England at all youth levels and many tip him to be the new Alan Shearer.
