General Information about the Club
Newcastle United has a proud history and its fans have often been named the best and most loyal in the Country. More often than not however the Players and Management have failed to match the Public's desires and this has led to The Magpies not winning a major Trophy in over 30 years. Not that we havent had our chances, only 3 and 4 years ago we reached the FA Cup Final only to lose to Arsenal and Man Utd respectively. Many blame the trophy drought on unsettled management. After Kevin Keegan took us from Division Two relegation favourites to a European Super Club in what was one of the most exciting spells in Newcastle's History we appointed Kenny Dalgliesh, a Premier League winner at Blackburn, as our new head. He however failed to lead Newcastle to any success although a 3-2 win over Barcelona at St James' in the Champions League and the journey to the FA Cup Final stand as his most impressive achievments in his Newcastle Management career. Although taking the Club from 2nd to 13th ultimitely led to his downfall. Many still say he could have made it if was given a bit longer. Next up was Ruud Gullit, appointed just a few games into the season of 98-99, he promised 'Sexy Football'. It never came. In fact yet again we finished in 13th but still made it to the FA Cup Final. In the season 99-00 the Club had started very badly with the critics suggesting we might be fighting relegation, this only 3 years after we were tipped to win the title! We needed a miracle worker. Up stepped Geordie Bobby Robson and in his first home game we thrashed Sheffield Wednesday 8-0. That year we finished 13th, very respectable considering the awful start we had. In his next season in charge Newcastle were to have a redeveloped 52,000 seater St James' Park as their home gound but still they couldn't use it to their advantage as they finished a disappointing 11th after sitting top of the table in the early months of the Season. Up next was season 01-02. After the huge captures of Laurent Robert and Craig Bellamy Newcastle were at last able to play the type of football that was common place in the Keegan era. Bobby Robson himself said that we have the 'Best team he has had at Newcastle'. After a good start many thought that we would fade away and let the 'big boys' take over but Newcastle were remained in the top 4 and finished with Champions League qualification. Robson has surrounded himself with both young and experienced players and hopes that he will be around to see what will surely be a great Newcastle side when the youngsters reach their peak.

The Club Badge United's badge is modelled on the City coat-of-arms. The two sea-horses represents Tyneside's strong connection with the sea, while the castle links with the city's Norman keep. The flag is similar to the City crest, a version of the cross of St. George and the shield signifies the club's black and white striped shirt.

When did the Club turn into a Plc? The Club has had 2 shots at being a Plc. The first being in 1990 and more recently in 1997 when Sir John Hall was in charge. His aim was to let the fans 'own' the club although this is now debatable since many big businesses have now bought a share in the club. Since the club floated on the stock market there has been a notible downturn in the club fortunes.
